Obituary for Betsy Rose Bucks (Long)

Betsy Rose Long Bucks was born in Roxboro, NC on August 6, 1942. On February 22, 2022, she passed to heaven in Sykesville, MD at age 79 of congestive heart failure. She was predeceased by Robert E. Long and Leiotte Hall-Long, her parents. She loved and cared for Dale Alan Bucks, her husband; Christa Bucks-Camacho, her daughter and Jose Camacho, son-n-law; Antonio and Ariela Camacho, grandchildren; David Bucks, her son and Elizabeth Weis-Bucks, her daughter-n-law, Lola and Benjamin Bucks, grandchildren. Betsy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC and Master of Spanish Education from Appalachian State in Boone, NC. She served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Colombia, South America in 1964-66. She is the author of Tortillitas Para Mama. Her careers included home economics, Spanish educator, case manager, and vocational rehabilitation counselor. She lived at Acts Faihaven where she was active in art, ceramics, handbells, swimming, and other activities. She served as the Chair of Social Services committee for the residents’ association. She was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with family and friends. Regardless of nationality, Betsy extended love, caring, and generosity.
On April 9, 2022 at 1 pm, family visitation and 2 pm Celebration of Betsy’s Life with reception to follow at Glen Mar UMC at 4710 New Cut Road, Ellicott City, MD 21043. Live stream available. Contact church 410-465-4995
On April 10, 2022 at 2 pm is Memorial in Chapel and at 3 pm is Service of Committal at Columbarium at Acts Fairhaven at 7200 Third Avenue, Sykesville, MD 21784.
