Obituary for Carolyn Davis Etzler

Carolyn Etzler, age 76, loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother, died on December 17, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born March 31, 1946, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of Thomas Davis and Anita Davis.
Carolyn graduated from Towson with a teaching degree and served as a teacher at Mount Airy Elementary School for her entire career. Carolyn was well loved by her colleagues and often given the title of “favorite teacher” by her former students. Confident and outgoing, Carolyn was a member of the Mount Airy Players for a time, supporting and starring in their hometown productions. Carolyn was a devoted member of St. James’ Episcopal Church in Mt. Airy. Carolyn and Bob were married at St. James’ and have continued to be a part of the church family, which she held dear to her heart. While some retirees enjoy well-earned relaxation or new hobbies, Carolyn doubled-down on helping out with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She and Bob were the biggest fans at her grandchildren’s many sporting events and activities, and had the team gear to prove it. Blessed with a large family, Carolyn always made time for everyone. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her sisters, sorority sisters and many friends, and through these networks always stayed in the loop, while successfully avoiding joining Facebook. In her free-time, you could find Carolyn rocking in her rocking chair, reading, helping out at church, or finding interesting books or do-dads for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her husband Charles Robert Etzler; children, Erin O. Schwartzbeck, Jessica E. Bahorich, 1st. Sgt. Robert S. C. Etzler and wife Savanna Etzler; grandchildren, Garrett, Isabella, Ryker, Bane, and Hartley; sisters Nancy Burner, Margaret Winkler and Elizabeth Poole; brothers Thomas Davis, and Steven Davis; brother-in-law Wilson Etzler and sister-in-law Logan Wilhelm; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life Ceremony for Carolyn at 2:00pm on Thursday, December 29, at 2:00pm, at St. James’ Episcopal Church in Mt. Airy, followed by a reception for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to St. James’ Episcopal Church in Mt. Airy, in memory of Carolyn Etzler.
