OBIT FOR CHARLES EDWARD BAUBLITZ JR.

Charles Edward Baublitz Jr. of Woodbine died at home Sunday, March 27, at age 76. He was born June 5, 1945 in Brooklyn Park, Anne Arundel County, Md. to the late Charles E. Baublitz Sr. and Ethel May (Thompson) Baublitz.
A career firefighter, he began as a volunteer at Ferndale Volunteer Fire Department at age 16. He entered the U.S. Army in 1965 and spent one year in the Netherlands and Belgium serving with NATO Headquarters Allied Forces Central Europe. After the Army, he trained with Class Three of Anne Arundel County Fire Department and was hired as a firefighter in May 1969. He spent most of his 27 ½ years at Ferndale Station 34, and his last few years at Glen Burnie Station 33. He worked his way up to Firefighter III as a pump operator, driving the equipment. During his time with the fire department, he earned several commendations for performance in helping to save lives during serious house fires. He retired in November 1996, and afterward joined the A.A.CO. Retired Firefighters Association.
He worked with another firefighter, Melvin Morrison, doing home improvements on the side for 25 years. From 2005 to 2017 he worked as a stockman for Boscov’s Department Store in Westminster Mall.
Charles married Eleandra (Ellie) Ann Mullenax April 9, 1971, and they had three children: Charles E. III, Jennifer Ann, and Jerid Neil. In 1984, the family moved from Brooklyn Park to Woodbine, Carroll County.
He collected all gauges of model trains, having a large collection in a specially built building. His favorite train ride was on the Cass Scenic Railroad in West Virginia. He belonged to the fire department bowling league for several years. He enjoyed reading science fiction and going to yard sales and flea markets. He also loved the family’s cats through many years. He and Ellie traveled to England in 2001 for three weeks, where he was able to see Stonehenge and other ancient sites. He also enjoyed trips to the West Virginia mountains.
Charles is survived by his wife of almost 51 years; his son Charles III and wife Ashly Ebeling of Woodbine; son Jerid of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren Victoria Baublitz, Amber Baublitz, and James and Nicholas McCarty, all of Woodbine; sister Ruth Hopson of Westminster; half-sister Betty Morgan of Hagerstown; brother James Baublitz of Brooklyn Park; and nieces and nephews.
