Obituary for Charles A. Treuting

Charles Treuting was born on October 3, 1927 in Catonsville, MD. He grew up in Catonsville, graduated from Catonsville High School. He also spent a lot of time in the Rock Hall/Tolchester area of the Eastern Shore, spending time “down on the farm,” hunting ground hogs, fishing, crabbing & swimming. It was on the Eastern Shore that he met his wife, Betty, who lived in Pikesville. Following a brief stint in the service, he went to a technical school & got certified as a licensed electrician. He worked for a private electrician for a while, then was hired by the Baltimore Sunpapers as a maintenance electrician. He worked there for 29 years, and after retiring from there, worked part time with his nephew’s HVAC business.

Charles enjoyed gardening, grown his tomato & pepper plants from seed he shared them with neighbors & friends. He also enjoyed the water & spent much time with Jane & Bruce Saxon, longtime friends at their home on Weems Creek in Annapolis. A good day there involved boating, swimming, fishing & crabbing, & he enjoyed sharing them with his daughters.

An Electrician by trade he was also a skilled carpenter & added a room on the back of his home. He used his skills often at Milford Mill UMC, caring for the Shrubbery outside, fixing whatever broke in the church or parsonage, and making wooden keepsakes for the Christmas is coming camp in there.

He purchased a 24 foot Wood boat & spent several years rebuilding it to make it seaworthy. He enjoyed taking family & friends out fishing & crabbing on it & spent the night on it occasionally. He enjoyed spending time with his daughters at home, playing games & teaching them how to use tools. He enjoyed teasing& being teased back!

In 2011 Charles & Betty moved to Augsburg Independent living where they both got involved in activities. Charles had a spot in the workshop there where he continued to do some woodwork. He had a small tomato patch & shared with his neighbors. He enjoyed playing pool with new friends there as well. As time went on, his vision & hearing began to fail severely, age took most of his mobility away.

He lived a full life, would help anyone he could, & was a devoted husband & father. He will be missed.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Betty Merriken Treuting, his daughter Linda Treuting Maxwell, and his grandson Jonathan Charles Boblitz., His daughter Pam Treuting Boblitz preceded him in death in 1989.
