Obituary for Earl R "Dick" Baker

Earl R. “Dick” Baker, Sr. 87 of Westminster formerly of Winfield

Mr. Baker passed Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Autumn Lake at Long View in Manchester, MD

He was the Beloved husband of 65 years to Yvonne E. (Taylor) Baker.

Dick was born June 1, 1935 in Monrovia, MD the son of the late Earl Lee Baker and the late Thelma (Rinker) Baker.

Veteran of the US Army, 101st Airborne Division
He was retired from the Westminster Coca-Cola Company. After retirement he worked part time for Winfield Little Georges and Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory. Mr. Baker was a Charter member of the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department and was a two-time Past President . He was Past President of the Carroll County Volunteer Fireman’s Association and served on numerous committees with the Maryland State Fireman’s Association. He was elected to the Hall of Fame for both the Carroll County Emergency Services Association and the MD State Fireman’s Association. People in the community loved and enjoyed Dick’s famous french fries at the Winfield Carnival for over 60 years. Dick was a member of American Legion Carroll Post 31 Westminster, VFW Post 467 Westminster, The Westminster Elks Lodge 2277, former member of Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club and founding member of Winfield Little league baseball. Mr. Baker was honored by Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department by dedicating Engine # 141 to him.

Surviving in addition to his wife are son Rick Baker(Brenda) of Taylorsville, daughter Gayle Baker-Taylor of Westminster, son Craig Baker (Kara) of Pleasant Valley, brother Oliver Baker(Betty) of Mt. Airy, sister-in-law Jane Baker of Frederick, grandchildren Jessica and Mikael Taylor, Scott, Zach, Collin, Ian and Meghan Baker, great-grandchildren Ayden, Oliva Taylor, Reese, Quinn, Lark and Luke Baker. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by son-in-law Allen Taylor, sister and brother-in-law Bess and Frank Gladhill and brother James Baker

The Family will receive friends Thursday, May 25th 2023 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM with a memorial service at 7 PM at the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department, 1320 West Old Liberty Rd Sykesville, MD 21784. Funeral Services will be held in the bays of the fire department Friday, May 26, 2023 11 AM. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery, Mount Airy, MD.
