Obituary for Elise L. Dorsey

Elise L. Dorsey, 78 was born April 7, 1942 in Frederick County, Maryland. She departed this life to be with the Lord on May 18, 2020. She was the daughter of Edith and James Simms, Sr. of Mt. Airy, MD. Elise was the wife of Leon Dorsey, Sr. of Charlotte, North Carolina, (formerly of Western Chapel Road, New Windsor, MD). Elise also leaves to cherish her memories, her son Leon (Brad) Dorsey, II and grandson Bradley C. Dorsey; two brothers and five sisters, Pastor Ernest Thomas, Sr. (wife Caroline), Nancy Myers (husband Raymond), Pastor Mary Chaney (husband Pastor John), Shelia Simms-Anderson, James Simms, II, Ernestine Simms-Kigh, Shirley Simms; Aunt Pamela Washington and son Billy; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Elise was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents James Orem and Marie Powell, and biological father Sterling Orem. Elise retired from Black and Decker Company, Westminster, MD after 34 years of service. Elise attended Strawbridge United Methodist Church, New Windsor, MD serving under Ambassador Blango Ross, Jr., Pastor Blagmond, and Pastor Gertie Williams. While in the United Methodist Church, Elise served as a Certified Lay Leader and a Lay Speaker, a delegate for the UMC Annual Conference, Sick/Shut-In, Nursing Home and Prison Ministries and attended Hospice Training. She also served on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Central Maryland; and she took a speaking course at Dale Carnegie School. On February 14, 2007, she and Leon moved to Charlotte, NC. Elise later attended The Living Church Ministries, under the leadership of Pastor Ronnie L. Parson. She went to South Africa on a missionary trip with Samantha Feet’s in 2008. She was a NAACP member. In 2008 Elise served as a Phone Bank Captain for the Democratic 204 Precinct Delegate in Charlotte, NC for President Barack Obama. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, October 24, 2020 11 a.m. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Sykesville, MD 21784. Masks must be worn and social distancing observed. Memorial Service will be Live Streamed.
