Obituary for Elizabeth Ann "Nin" Ruch (Murphy )

Elizabeth Ann Ruch (known by her grandchildren as “Nin”) of Owings Mills, MD, passed away September 23rd, 2022. She is the daughter of the late Blanche and Louis ‘Pop’ Murphy.

Elizabeth was born in Frederick, MD before moving to Baltimore City and finally settling in Owings Mills. She graduated from Seton High School in 1952. Immediately after graduation, she worked for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Maryland for several years before quitting to become a mother and homemaker.

During this time, she married the love of her life, Paul. They were married at Old Holy Family Church on June 5, 1955. In 1961, they moved into their house on Wards Chapel Road.

Elizabeth was a long-time parishioner at Holy Family Church. She and Paul volunteered their time counting money for the Church for most of their life.

She was an avid film buff, enjoying her weekly visits to the local movie theater with her children and grandchildren to experience the latest Hollywood blockbuster. Elizabeth relished the cinema of the 1940s and 50s and could discuss films, songs, and actors with great detail. She was a long-time fan of Frank Sinatra, entertaining her grandchildren with songs from the golden days of Hollywood whenever they’d visit. Elizabeth was also an avid cook and chef, providing feasts for her large family every Thursday evening (dubbed ‘Noodle Night’) and every major holiday. Christmas in particular was Elizabeth’s favorite holiday,
inviting her entire family to spend their holidays eating, playing games, and – of course – watching movies.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Catherine, and brother-in-law, Arnie Gries. She is also survived by her five children, Patty and her husband, Mike Klein; Michael Ruch; Debbie and her husband, Barry Cline; Brian Ruch; and Timmy Ruch and his wife Ginny as well as her seventeen grandchildren, Mikie; Patrick and his wife Tiffany; Katie and her husband Leo; Sean and his wife, Maria; Ryan and his wife, Mary; Shannon; Kevin; Brigid; Michael and his girlfriend, Kelsey; Megan and her husband, John; Kerry; Casey and his wife, Kathryn; Kathleen and her husband, Grant; Paul; Molly; Olivia; and Brandon. She is well-remembered by her seventeen great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Rory, Killian, Declan, Riordan, Mairead, Maggie, Rosie, Eddie, Ruthie, Annie, Finn, Lucy, Ignatius, Caleb, Aiden, and Emelynn, and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
