Obituary for Emma Jane "Janie" Rippeon (Chipley)

Emma Jane (Janie) Rippeon, loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, homemaker, and friend, peacefully passed away at her home in Unionville, MD, on October 8, 2023, at the age of 89. She was born in Harney, PA on May 28, 1934, to the late Howard Chipley, Sr. and Dorothy Bankert Stoner.
Jane met the love of her life, the late Charles (Frecks) Rippeon, Sr., at the Rainbow Roller Rink in Taneytown, MD. They were married on July 4, 1952. Their marriage vows were witnessed by their recently married and cherished lifelong and friends, Jimmy and Margie Martin. After their wedding, both couples traveled to Niagara Falls for a long honeymoon weekend. Jane was married to her man for 61 years. They shared many laughs, tears, joys and heartaches together, but their commitment to each other was unwavering for 61 years. Jane was a member of Locust Grove Church of the Brethren for 67 years.
All who knew Jane, learned first-hand, she was an outstanding and creative cook. She could turn yesterday’s leftovers into a meal fit for a king. All guests or any visitor, no matter who or what time of day, was invited to sit at Jane’s dinner table for a delicious and rememberable feast. No one every left her table hungry. Along with being a superb cook, Jane was blessed with the heart of a nurse and caregiver. She always showed compassion to any one in need and was quick to offer a helping hand to those who were weary and ill. She was especially kindhearted and caring to her husband in his last years, her mother and mother-in-law, Hilda Rippeon. Jane loved all children with a special sweet tenderness and children just loved her because they felt she genially cared about them.
Jane leaves behind six children. Sons, Charles (Rip) Rippeon, Jr., and companion, Tina Cooper and David Rippeon; daughters, Debra (Debbie) Rippeon and son Donald (DJ) Covey, Jr., Connie Eyler, husband Herb and sons Douglas Poole and the late Luke Poole, Melissa (Lisa) Potts, her late husband Glenn and son Matthew, and Jennifer (Jenny) Cevario, husband Mike and daughter Nicole, step-brother Creedin Stoner, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, parents, son-in-law, and grandson, she is preceded in death by her sister, Ruby Brooks, brother, Howard Stoner, step-father, Frank Stoner, Sr., step-brother, Frank Stoner, Jr., and half-brother, Terry Stoner.
A celebration of Jane’s life will take place on Saturday, October 14th at 11am in the sanctuary of the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren. Viewing will be held from 10 to 11am with services starting promptly after viewing hour. Immediately following service, internment will be held in church cemetery at 13356 Glissans Mill Road, Mt. Airy, MD.
After burial, a remembrance meal will be served in the church fellowship hall. All attendees are invited to join the family and share your memories of Jane.
