Obituary for Gary Bruce Keirle

Gary Bruce Keirle, 73, of Westminster, died peacefully Monday, February 6, at his home with his children, younger brother, and son-in-law by his side. His beloved wife of 42 years, Colleen Mary Keirle, preceded him in death in 2014.

Mr. Keirle was born November 9, 1949, in Baltimore, MD to the late Ellsworth Martin Keirle, Sr. and the late Doris Estelle Daniels Keirle. He was a humble, kind-hearted man who always maintained his sense of humor. He was in the Army during the Vietnam era and was a cook while in the Army at Fort Meade. He was a near graduate of CCBC, 3 credits shy of getting his AA degree. He was a very skilled carpenter and locksmith. He worked throughout his lifetime at Metro West, Social Security Administration, and the USDA. He also had his home improvement license and was self-employed with Keirle Contracting for several years, primarily building houses.

Mr. Keirle loved sports: Football, Baseball, Fast Pitch Softball, Basketball, Bowling, and Pool! He was so athletic, in his early twenties, he was even invited to join the Orioles Farm Team down in Florida, but he had just gotten married and declined the offer. If he wasn’t playing sports, he was always watching them. He played until he couldn’t, and then helped coach his son’s Baseball teams as he was growing up.

Furthermore, Mr. Keirle loved the outdoors. He enjoyed doing all kinds of yard work and gardening, and he especially enjoyed hunting. He kept up the yearly tradition of deer hunting with his son and youngest brother until he was physically unable to participate. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his friends and family, and especially his two children. Before becoming house bound, Mr. Keirle was very sociable and loved bragging about his kids to anyone he met. He loved listening to music and also would never turn down a chance to eat ice cream, especially on outings with his daughter.

Mr. Keirle is survived by his son Seth Matthew Keirle of Westminster; daughter Katie Keirle Li and son-in-law, Limin Li, of New Market; brother Ellsworth Martin Keirle, Jr. and wife Harriett of Westminster; sister Barbara Smith and husband Richard of Westminster; and brother Dennis Keirle of Westminster. He is also survived by many other relatives, including numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Ronald Keirle and Douglas Keirle.

Mr. Keirle wanted to be remembered in life, not death; therefore, a very private service was held for his two children. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BridgingLife, formerly Carroll Hospice, at lifebridgehealth.org or Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org. Cards are also welcomed to the family's home address, and online condolences can be given at www.burrier-queen.com.
