Obituary for Gilbert N. Harrison

Gilbert N. Harrison, 93 of Sykesville, MD passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at The Dove House surrounded by his family.
He was the beloved husband of Marie Harrison for 27 years and the late Leona Harrison (nee Mullinix) who passed in 1992.
Gilbert was born March 31, 1929, in Daisy, MD the son of the late Ira O. Harrison and the late Mamie E. Harrison (nee Unglesbee).
He worked for the Howard County Bureau of Highways as a supervisor for 30+ years. Gilbert also once worked for Case Int’l, farmed, and did golf course landscaping. An avid outdoorsman, Gilbert enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing with his cousins, playing horseshoes at family gatherings, and travel. He loved to watch old westerns, his TV preachers, and was always keenly attuned to current events and politics. He recently affirmed his faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children Sharon C. Dawson (Michael) Byron, GA, Donna L. Farkas (Andrew) Evans, GA, Diana McCullough (Frank), Ruth Cook (Paul) and Margaret Butler (Robert). He was the grandfather of Brandon Dawson, Mark Dawson, Bethany Schultz, Abigail Farkas, Robert Butler, Shawn McCullough, Steven Butler, Gregg Conaway and 8 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his sister Eleanor Hodges of Water Valley, MS and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his siblings Ira, Stanley, James Herbert, Irene Chrobot, Gertrude Gue, Yvonne Duvall, Charlotte Sirk and 3 baby brothers Aubrey, Lacey and Paul. Also preceded by his granddaughter Michelle and great-grandson Kristopher.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 4, 2023, from 10:30 Am -11:30 AM. The funeral service will begin at 11:30 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1212 W. Old Liberty Road Sykesville, MD 21784 (Beside South Carroll High School).
Interment at True Gospel Cemetery in Lisbon, MD.
