Obituary for Chas Langelan

Harry Charles Langelan, 72 of Mt. Airy, MD passed away on November 19, 2019.
He was the loving husband of Terry Langelan.
He was born June 12, 1947 in Toledo, OH the son of Harry Charles Langelan, Sr. and Severine Langelan (nee Gurzynski).
Chas had 43 plus years of surveying experience and retired from A. Morton Thomas in 2008, after reaching Vice President of the company by working his way through the ranks. He played an instrumental part in establishing the Company’s DC office which was a long-term goal of his. He was the first Licensed land Surveyor in Washington, DC. Chas served on the Boards of five professional organizations; District of Columbia Association of Land Surveyors (DCALS), Surveyors Historical Society, Maryland Society of Surveyors (Carroll County Chapter President), Map Society and Historical Society. He was a past-president of DCALS and received the First DCALS lifetime Distinguished Service Award which comes with all the privileges and considerations of an Honorary member. He is one of two people to serve continuously on the DCALS Board of Directors since its inception. Chas was also a past-president of MSS and received Surveyor of the Year award. Chas also reset a Mason-Dixon Crown stone on the Maryland & Pennsylvania border using Colonial Surveying Techniques; he also found DC Boundary stone SE 8- which he spent more time with than his loved ones for that year. Chas loved to collect old Maps, Survey instruments and historical information. He was an expert mechanic and a lover of old Jeeps.
Survived by his sons Ryan, Kellen and Brady Langelan, his daughter-in-law Emilia Langelan and grandchildren Aidan, Lia, Avery, and Noah.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 23, 2019 from 12 Noon to 2 PM at which time a short service will be held at 2 PM at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, P.A. 1212 West Old Liberty Road Winfield, MD 21784 (Beside South Carroll High School)
