Obituary for Hedy B. McGinnis (Busold)

Hedy B. McGinnis (nee Busold), age 89, of Sykesville, MD died on Saturday, March 27, 2021.
She was the beloved wife of the late John McGinnis for 64 years.
She was born July 1, 1931 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late Joseph E. Busold and the late Hedwig Busold (nee Forsterling). She lived in Woodlawn and moved to Carroll County in 1958.
She worked as a secretary at the University of Baltimore in the finance department until she had children. She then worked with her husband running the office of John E. McGinnis Builders until their retirement. In retirement, she began painting pictures, often of nature which she loved. When John began woodworking, she would paint the plaques and folk-art signs and designs for the church bazaars. She was a founding member of the Lakeview Homemaker club and an active member of Wesley Freedom Church for over 50 years. She and John ran the Woodworking Table at the church bazaar for many years and she continued to help the Craft Group even after his death. She also served on other various committees throughout the years. Together with John they were part of establishing a mission church for the United Church of Christ in the early 60’s, named Our Savior UCC. She was the organist and choir director there until it folded & they joined Wesley Freedom. They were instrumental in donating funding for the startup of the Carroll Hospice Dove house after witnessing how instrumental inpatient hospice was in Florida. She was an avid supporter of the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department. She was an avid sewer all of her life and loved traveling with her husband all over the world. Her life was dedicated to her husband and her family.
She is survived by her children Bonnie McGinnis Kelly & husband Joe, and Gary McGinnis & wife Karen. She is also survived by her grandchildren Matthew McDearmon & partner Nikki Stambaugh, Amanda Schreuers & husband Dan, Laura Garver & husband Jason, Lee McGinnis, Shawn Miller and wife Kristen, Dwayne Miller & wife Amy and 9 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 2, 2021 from 6-8 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1212 W. Old Liberty Road Winfield, MD 21784 (Beside South Carroll High School). Social Distancing and masks are required at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 1 PM at Wesley Freedom U.M. Church, 961 Johnsville Road, Eldersburg, MD 21784. Social distancing and mask are required at the church.
Interment at Freedom Cemetery.
