Obituary for Henry James Burke Sr.

Henry James Burke, Sr., age 87, of Sykesville, MD., died Peacefully at home with his family by his side on Saturday, March 4, 2023.

He was born February 4, 1936, in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late Henry Louis Burke and the late Mabel Burke (nee Fromm).

He was the loving husband of the late Mary Ellen Burke (nee Carter) for 58 years. His Sweetheart who would never grow old, he would often say.

Henry served in the US Marines from 1952-1955-PFC; which he received an award for rifleman.

He was a Truck Driver for 35 years, for Pantry Pride, Inc., Montgomery Ward, Green Company and Penske/Leaseway (Mountanside Transportation); receiving numerous Safe Driving Awards from each Company; received a diploma for a Certified Locksmith from Foley-Belsaw Institute, enjoyed working in the yard and fixing cars; and watching Turner Classic Movies. He was always helping his family with odds and ends around their homes and even babysitting. He could always be counted on to help if someone called on him. He enjoyed family gatherings and attended many important family events.

He was the loving father to his son Hank and his daughter Lori; the loving grandfather of Nathan; dear brother of Geraldine Fowler, Mary Clan, and the late Edgar Burke; Loving and helpful to many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Private Inurnment and Service.

Gathering of Family and friends will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 3:00-4:30 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD 21784 (next to South Carroll High School); with a Celebration of Life and Military Honors at 4:30 PM with Rev. Robert Tousey officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
