Obituary for Janet Christy (McVey)
Janet Sue Christy, 79, of Sykesville, MD, formerly of Agency, IA, died on September 30, 2019, at Birch Manor Heathcare Center in Sykesville, MD.
She was born April 7, 1940 in Ottumwa Iowa to Wilford and Ruth Loretta Miller McVey.
A graduate of Agency High School in 1957, she furthered her education at Kirksville Missouri State Teachers College and Parson’s College in Fairfield, IA, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in sociology and social Studies. She was last employed as an Administrative Assistant for Prudential Insurance in Harrisburg, PA.
She was a member of Paxton United Methodist Church in Harrisburg, PA and was an avid reader, puzzler and pianist.
Surviving is her son, Bart Christy and wife DeAnn of Ijamsville, MD; her five grandchildren, Brandon Christy, Zach Christy, Brittany Christy, Ashley Christy and Nathan Christy; her brother, Gary McVey and wife Nancy of Kerrville, TX; her niece, Rev. Melinda McCluskey and husband Rev. Scot of Clear Lake, IA; and her nephew Michael McVey and wife Tracy of Wellman, IA. Her parents preceded her in death.
A graveside memorial service for family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 7th at Agency Cemetery, Agency, IA, with Rev. Melinda McCluskey officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD 21784.
