Obituary for Larry E. Gartrell

Larry E. Gartrell, 79 of Taylorsville, MD, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, after a brief illness.
He was born August 21, 1941, in Taylorsville, MD. He was the son of the late Ruby (nee King) Gartrell Logue and the late Alvia Elwood Gartrell and his late stepfather Wilford Logue.
Growing up on a farm in Taylorsville, and a dairy farm near Mt. Airy, he experienced helping neighbors’ plant and harvest with horses along with his own family's farming that included growing market tomatoes by the truckload and worm seed. With the family offering custom thrashing and later combining during the summer months and saw milling during the cooler months, he always kept busy or was kept busy by his family. He was amazed how much farming had changed in his lifetime.
After graduation he learned residential construction from the ground up and worked many years for Senate Construction as a Superintendent until he went into business with his son and started A & L Builders, Inc. He also farmed and loved to hunt and spend time with his dog. He had also served in the Army Reserves 559 Signal Corp, for six years, and was active during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Larry is survived by his daughter Deborah Gartrell-Kemp and son-in-law Michael Kemp and son Allen Gartrell and fiancé Cynthia McNemar all of New Windsor. In addition to friends and family, he also leaves behind nephews David and Michael Logue and niece Shelly Logue Laney.
Preceded in death by brother Robert Logue and sister-in-law Shirley Logue.
