Obituary

Nancy Myers Davis of Pikesville, Maryland passed away peacefully on April 30, 2020, at the age of 95. She was born in Baltimore, MD on November 22, 1924, the daughter of India and Morris Myers. Nancy graduated from Forest Park High School, where she learned shorthand and excelled at typing. After high school, she worked for Baltimore Gas and Electric Company in a clerical position, a position she loved. She also held positions later in life working for the Board of Elections and as a bookkeeper for Merkle Monuments.

She met Russell M. Davis, of Sudbrook Park (Pikesville, MD) on a blind date that was set up by friends. After several years of dating, they were married on September 4, 1948. Following Russ’ career in finance at The Associates, they moved to Winchester, VA. In 1951, their first daughter, Susan, was born. In 1953, they bought their first home in Hagerstown, MD and they had a second daughter, Carol. In 1958, Russ was transferred back to Baltimore and they bought a home in Sudbrook Park. It remained the family home for 33 years. Nancy and Russ were married for nearly 38 years, until Russ’ death in 1986. In 1991, Nancy moved to Easton, MD getting her closer to the beach she loved and a close friend. In 2009, she moved back to Pikesville to be closer to family.

Nancy was a faithful member of The Sudbrook Club, Inc, participating in events like bake sales, holiday events, costume making, etc. Nancy was also a very active member of Milford Mill Church for many years, including ringing in the handbell choir. Nancy had a great many interests including cooking (well known for her homemade mints), calligraphy, and flower arrangement. Even as her mind started to fade, she never lost her flower arranging ability. She always loved music and dancing. She thoroughly enjoyed when the Gospel Choir sang at Milford Mill Church and would often clap and dance from her seat in the pew. She usually had a smile and a positive attitude which earned her the name “Fancy Nancy” by the Woodholme Gardens Assisted Living staff.

Nancy also had a great love of travel. Family vacations were taken every summer, with local trips to Ocean City and more distant trips to New England, Florida, Canada, and a cross country trip to California via travel trailer. These trips included lots of sightseeing to historical places and were meticulously researched in advance by Nancy and her Dad, Morris. For their 25th wedding anniversary, Nancy and Russ took their first cruise and Nancy discovered she loved to cruise! She took many cruises in the years after that and even celebrated her 75th birthday on a dinner & dancing cruise.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan D. (Jennifer) Butler and Carol D. (James) Yates, her sister Jeanne McCoy, grandchildren, Amy (Michael) Archibald, Christopher (Kaitlyn) Butler, Jeffrey (Steven) Yates, and Alexander (Kurt) Yates, and great grandchildren, Lily and Oliver Archibald, and Hannah Butler. She was a beloved grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, and cousin.

Nancy’s memorial service will be held at Burrier-Queen in Sykesville on Saturday, May 9th at 11:00am and attended by her immediate family. The service will be live streamed and recorded for extended family and friends to view on the Burrier-Queen website. There will be a limited viewing at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy’s memory to Milford Mill United Methodist Church or The Village at Augsburg, her residence at the time of her passing.
