Obituary for Pastor Paul Philip Warnken

Paul Philip Warnken, age 76, of Westminster, Maryland, died September 7, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn Marie Warnken. They recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Paul was born on August 6, 1946 in Baltimore, MD, the son of Edgar O. Warnken, Sr., and Osma (nee Winemiller) Warnken. He retired after 25 years of service to the U.S. Treasury Department, Internal Revenue Service.

Paul enlisted in the Army and served from June, 1967 to June, 1970. Following his Army Intelligence training, he served for one year as an Intelligence Specialist in Vietnam. Among other awards, he received the Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals, the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star.

Paul was a Christian Pastor, ordained in the church in China. He and his wife Carolyn loved the Chinese people and, over the course of 14 years, made month-long trips to Mainland China to teach the Bible. He also served as Pastor to the residents at Lorien, Mount Airy, MD for 17 years, holding the Sunday worship services. He served in numerous Christian outreaches and was a gifted Bible teacher in his church.

Surviving relatives are beloved son Michael Keith Warnken (Julie), grandson Graham Warnken, granddaughter Rebecca (nee Warnken) Fruetel (Scott), brother, Edgar O. Warnken, Jr. (Jo Ann), brother, John Clark Warnken, sister, Joy Lee Warnken, brother-in-law Steve Meyers (Sheila), along with nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD 21784-9327 on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 12:30 p.m., with Pastor Quint Merson of CrossLife Bible Church officiating.

Private Interment will be in Garrison Forest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2022.
