It was my great fortune to work alongside Phil in the Northrop Grumman Cal Lab at the BWI facility. When I first started working there Phil had already been managing the Electrical Cal Lab for some time. I replaced a retiring manager so I was quite green in a new company, however Phil took me under his wings and taught me the Northrop Grumman way. We had a great respect for one another and became fast friends, but then again Phil was an easy person to befriend. His strong Christian beliefs and easy going manner afforded him an easy going and compassionate disposition. Whether discussing calibration topics or his years of flying banner planes over Ocean City, MD, I always enjoyed our conversations. Phil’s face always lit up immensely whenever he spoke of his daughter Darlene and son Nick. His love and pride in Darlene and Nick was undeniable.

I was honored, and accepted immediately, when Phil asked me to stand as his best man at his marriage to Pam. Of course I’d been hearing about Pam from the time they started dating and I had met her so I naturally felt Phil was very lucky to meet such a caring and giving person. Pam’s dedication to Phil throughout their marriage and during his decline is truly a testament to her strong Christian ways and enormous heart.

Phil may have left this earth, however his warmth, laugh and welcoming smile will always remain with me.
Good Bye My Friend,
Vernon Alt
