Obituary for William L. "Bill" Jenkins

William (Bill, BillyBoy) Jenkins, age 69 of Mount Airy, MD passed away on December 7, 2022.

Bill was the loving husband of his wife of 20 years, Kelli Lafferty Jenkins, and father to daughters Ava Kate Jenkins and Olivia Rae Jenkins.

Bill was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 10, 1953, the son of Marguerite Gessler (Wirth) and the late Richard (Dick) Jenkins. Bill was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Margaret Wirth and loving adoptive father, Alfred (Al) Needleman with whom Bill shared a very special bond.

Bill is survived by his mother, Marguerite Gessler (Wirth) and sister, Deborah McGuire, and her husband Shawn. In addition, Bill is survived by his aunt, uncle, mother-in-law, sister and brother-in-laws, a niece, nephews, cousins, and many very special friends.

Bill was employed by the Howard County Public School System for 33 years prior to retiring in 2011. Starting as a band and orchestra teacher, Bill later became a music resource teacher for
HCPSS followed by an Assistant Principal at Clarksville, Elkridge, Bollman Bridge, and Lisbon elementary schools. Outside of work, Bill loved playing drums and played in a band for many
years during his early years of teaching. After retiring, Bill found joy in spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid runner and often competed in races including many marathons and half marathons. Bill enjoyed playing cornhole, golf, Sudoku, and Angry Birds. He loved watching his favorite sports teams (the Orioles and Ravens), cooking at home for his family, and spending time at the beach.

Bill may be best remembered for his beautiful, kind, caring, gentle soul who loved to laugh and always found the good in people. Bill lived by the following words, “I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being; let me do it now. Let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”
(Stephen Grellet).
