Robert Lewis Bigelow
September 13, 1966 – May 24, 2020

A man of extraordinary talents and strength, Robert Lewis Bigelow passed away to be with the Lord on Sunday at the young age of 53. Son of Lewis Fletcher, mother the late Judith Valerie and step-mother Nancy Marie, he was born on September 13, 1966 in St. Charles, Missouri. Affectionately known by his nieces as Rob-Rob, he was undeniably smart and often advised to “Do as I say, not as I do”. Always a free-spirit and young at heart, Robert exuded a youthful, magnetic energy in every facet of his life.

Passionate is an understatement. An exceptionally talented athlete himself, Robert lived and breathed sports, particularly the Dallas Cowboys, St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Capitals. You should’ve seen him when the Caps not only beat the Penguins to advance to the playoffs but proceeded to win the Stanley Cup two years ago. He knew more about sports and stats than the pros, and no one gave better advice if you were placing a bet in Vegas.

Robert was a lover of the arts, particularly music. Pink Floyd prevailed as undoubtedly his favorite, but other top artists included System of a Down, Porno for Pyros and anything classic rock. He was also an aspiring rapper, known in the community as St. Lou. One of his most beloved jobs was as a Bouncer at the popular live-music bar Hammerjacks in Baltimore. It combined two of his favorites, great music and being the strongest and toughest guy in the room.

It is no coincidence that Robert impacted the lives of so many people. He had a truly infectious personality and everyone he met wanted to be his new best friend. He never failed to impress everyone with his spectacular cooking skills, specifically his famous French toast breakfast, fluffy omelets and homemade sweet tea that outshined any restaurant. Robert was naturally funny, dancing, singing and never failing to make a crowd laugh. He inherited a love for animals from his mother, and they were consistently drawn to his effervescent spirit – cats couldn’t get enough of him.

Above all else, Robert will be remembered by his never-ending love for his family. He is survived by his father, Lewis Bigelow, sister, Kelly Hutchinson, brother-in-law, Alan Hutchinson, aunt, Victoria Travis, cousins, Robert and Richard Travis, step-sisters Lisa Celinski, Debbie Golliday and Heather Smith, three nieces, Alana, Katelyn and Grace Hutchinson and grandnephew Kristian Jalen Booker.

We all “Wish You Were Here”.

So sorry to hear about Rob’s passing. We all grew up in MD City together and had a lot of fun memories swimming at the pool and playing MD City rec sports together. My Mom (Shirley Nestor) was
very good friends with Rob’s Mom, Judy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
